The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) - a nonprofit organization which conducts crash tests and gathers data to improve automobile safety - has rated the 2015 Chrysler 200 a "Top Safety Pick Plus." Â Top Safety Pick Plus is the organization's highest rating, and indicates a vehicle which has excellent performance in collision tests as well as available anti-collision equipment.
IIHS crash-test ratings are determined through a battery of crash tests which simulate different scenarios - a side impact from a large SUV, small- and moderate-offset front collisions, a rear collision, and a roof-crush test which simulates a vehicle rollover. Â Crash-test dummies are used to determine possible injuries to occupants of the vehicle.
The 2015 Chrysler 200 received the maximum score for each crash test, but the IIHS rates that performance as merely a Top Safety Pick. Â To achieve Top Safety Pick Plus, the vehicle must also demonstrate safety systems that can react automatically to prevent or mitigate accidents, such as the Chrysler 200's Forward Collision Warning-Plus - a system which is capable of detecting an impending collision and autonomously braking in order to avoid it.
If the 2015 Chrysler 200's performance and convenient features (including ParkSense parking assistance) weren't enough, this IIHS rating means drivers can now feel confident that they have one of the safest vehicles on the road.
